Donauw鰎th; Germany; detail of head and hand of St. Benedictus. The former Benedictine monastery church dates back to the 11th century; but was sacked during the Thirty Years' War. Later in the 17th century; during a restoration; two skeletons of presumed martyrs from the Roman Catacombs were acquired as relics; including this St. Benedictus; whose remains were probably anonymous; and the name bequeathed in honor of the patron of the monastery's order. Across the nave from him; in a similar pose; is a St. Stephanus. Photo 2012.
