The annual celebration is held on 8 November; to commemorate and thank the 馻titas; which are skulls kept in shrines at home. These skulls are considered as helpers and intercessors for the living. The largest celebration is at the Cementerio General (Cemetery General). This photo of a pair of skulls was taken during the afternoon of the Fiesta. The cigarettes are common offerings; and the flower petals surrounding them are dropped by passersby in their honor. Photo 2009.
