SYMBOLS - OCCULT ART - ROSICRUCIANS - SPIRALS One of a series of influential occult engravings by William Law, in explication of the principles in the arcane thought of the Rosicrucian, Jacob Boehme, from The Works of Jacob Behmen, The Teutonic Theosopher, Vol 1, 1764. Plate 4, which is a textual continuation of the previous plate, wherein the full development of the working properties are set forth, in a tightening spiral. Now the central triangle is reduplicated, to form the symbol of the Seal of Solomon (which is two interlinked triangles on a communal centre). Boehme calls these merged three the 'Exalted, Trinctured, or Transmuted Properties' - the three kingdoms of Love, Light and Glory. This trinity is emphasised by Law, for he has anglicised the four letters of the Tetragrammaton (the name of God) to make of it three pairs of two Roman letters: IE HO VA. These six letters are reflected in the three subtended circles by six sigils. These (reading from the top, in clockwise direction) are the number Six, Mercury, Jupiter: the Moon, Saturn, number One: number Five, Mars and Venus. [continuation sentence C] 猞ng this Life along with it from Nature into Liberty: And so that Former Temperature in Nothingness, is made a most Glorious Habitation of the Holy Trinity as being manifest therein. And is now called a Temperature in Substantiality, full of Natural but Tinctured & Harmonized Properties. The quotations are from William Law's An Illustration of the Deep Principles of Jacob Behmen, the Teutonic Theosopher.
