A set of column scales, here with a height measuring column attached. These are most often used in healthcare environments such as GP surgeries and hospital clinics. The patient stands on the baseplate and the operator moves the balance weights on the arm to achieve a reading. By also measuring the patient's height, their body mass index (bmi) may be calculated.
