Proctitis is an inflammation of the anus and the lining of the rectum. Symptoms include painful bowel movements, diarrhoea and rectal bleeding. Here, the condition was caused by radiation therapy (radiotherapy) for cancer, but it may also be caused by sexually transmitted infections, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
