Congenital hip dislocation. Illustration of a frontal section through a child's hip joint, showing congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH) or developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), one of several hip disorders that can affect babies and children. This condition is a congenital or developmental deformation of the hip joint. The head of the femur is underdeveloped and dislocated from its normal position in its socket in the pelvis. The joint tissues include cartilage (pink), the synovial membrane (blue), and the joint capsule (red). For a set of four images illustrating childhood hip disorders, see C029/0661. For the individual images, see C029/0657-60.
