Light micrograph of two young colonies of Coleochaete (Gr. koleos, sheat & Gr. chaite, long hair) sp. freshwater green alga along with Cocconeis sp. diatoms on an "Aufwuchs"-slide, exposed 6 days in a garden pond in the botanic garden of Cologne. Coleochaete forms discoid colonies growing on water plant surfaces. Microscopic contrast method : Differential interference contrast. Magnification 380x when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
