Regions of Africa. Political map showing African regional boundaries in around 1908. The Berlin Conference of 1884-85 had formalised the division of Africa among the European powers, shown as British (pink), French (yellow), Italian (light brown), German (green), Spanish (blue), Portuguese (orange) and Belgian (black). Liberia (white) had been established as a free state, and Morocco (dark brown) was nominally (and briefly) independent following the Algeciras Conference of 1906. The major rivers are also shown: the Nile, the Niger, the Congo, the Zambesi, and the Orange River. Published by the Wells Missionary Map Company, Chicago, USA.
