CONSTANTINOPLE, 1422. One of the earliest extant plans of Constantinople, by the Florentine traveller, Cristoforo Buondelmonti. Though greatly simplified, it represents the city as it was in 1422, some 30 years before her fall to the Turks. On the right is the great domed Hagia Sophia.
