Hofat mountains. Aerial view of the grass-covered peaks of the Hofat mountains in the Allgau Alps, Germany. The 4 peaks of Hofats (highest altitude 2259 m) are the most prominent in the Allgau Alps. They are composed of aggregated limestone and marl. The latter's moistness makes the mountains unique in the Alps as it allows the steep ridges to become overgrown with a thick layer of grass, giving them the nickname Allgauer Grasberge (Allgau grass mountains).
