Pierre Macquer (1718-1784). 1858 illustration of the French chemist Pierre-Joseph Macquer. Macquer is best known for his Dictionnaire de Chymie (Dictionary of Chemistry, 1766). He was also involved in the practical application of chemistry to medicine and industry, including the French development of porcelain.
