The portraits above are of Nicolaus Copernicus, Charles Darwin, Baruch Spinoza, and Thomas Paine. The words 'Knowledge is Power' are visible. This chromolithograph, by Joseph Ferdinand Keppler (1838-1894), was published on 10 January 1883 as the centrefold of the magazine Puck (volume 12, number 305).
