Rubber tree plantation, Singapore. Workers and overseers on a plantation of rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis) in Singapore. The trees show the cuts that have been made on them to release their milky sap (latex). The sap is collected and used to make natural rubber. This photograph, from between 1890 and 1923, forms part of the Frank and Frances Carpenter Collection, which consists of photographs on world travel and geography.
