New Melones Lake drought. Dead trees and previously flooded land exposed by low water levels in the New Melones Reservoir, in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Jamestown, California, USA. This reservoir was created by the construction of the New Melones Dam across the Stanislaus River from 1966 to 1979. California has been experiencing a severe drought since 2011, with this photograph taken on 13 February 2015.
