Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria, illustration. These Gram-positive cocci (spherical bacteria) are an example of non-pathogenic bacteria found on human skin. They are well-adapted to the skin's natural acidity. They are usually harmless, but are able to form biofilms on plastics and so can cause infections around medical devices such as catheters and drips.
