Damaged Space Shuttle tiles. Protective tiles from NASA's Space Shuttle. These are low-temperature reusable surface insulation (LRSI, white) high-temperature reusable surface insulation (HRSI, black) tiles and part of the Space Shuttle thermal protection system (TPS), designed to protect the shuttles from the searing heat generated during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. These tiles were damaged during re-entry.
