Kidney cancer. Light micrograph (LM) from a kidney affected with papillary adenoma. Papillary adenoma of the kidney is a type of benign renal neoplasm. It falls under the general category of renal adenomas and is considered one of the commonest of renal epithelial neoplasms. Papillary adenomas occur in 7% of nephrectomies and up to 40% of autopsies, are more common in older patients, in those receiving long-term dialysis or with acquired cystic disease of the kidneys. Papillary adenomas may be associated with, or arise from, renal cell carcinomas. The bottom leftcorner of the image shows tumour and the top right corner normal kidney tissue. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
