Light microscopy of the inner epithelium lining of the stomach, specifically the cardia region which is next to where the oesophagus enters the stomach. Long tubular glands called gastric glands is the characteristic feature. At the top are the gastric pits and the cells are mostly mucous-secreting. Deeper down, the glands are narrow again with mucous cells, and rarely or in low abundance, acid-secreting parietal cells, enzyme-secreting chief cells, and enteroendocrine cells producing hormones. Magnification x55 when printed at 10 cm.
