Vostok Station. Aerial view of the Vostok Station, Antarctica. This Russian outpost is one of the most remote research stations in the world. It is located around 1,300 kilometres from the geographic South Pole, in Antarctica's Princess Elizabeth Land. Founded by the Soviet Union in 1957, it also lies at the southern Pole of Cold, with the lowest reliably measured natural temperature on Earth of ?89.2 degrees Celsius. Imaged by the Digital Mapping System (DMS) airborne camera onboard NASA's P-3 aircraft, on 27th November 2013.
