The oviduct or Fallopian tube is the channel in which the egg is usually fertilized. It conducts the female egg from the ovary (where it is formed) to the uterus where the fertilized egg develops into an embryo. Here, bands of smooth muscle cells are seen in the ovi- duct wall, which by their peristaltic action push the egg down the oviduct. A nerve (blue) is seen at left.
