Spirostomum protozoa. This large, elongated, single-celled creature has tiny, hair-like structures (cilia) along the length of its body. The movement of these hairs propels the protozoan through the water. It is known as a ciliate protozoan. It can reaches sizes of 3-4 millimetres in length. These specimens were sampled from stagnant water.
