Predatory mite (superfamily Gamasida), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These mites are found in the soil and lead litter where they feed on other mites, nematode worms and insect larvae. They are often used as a biological control against harmful mites. The scissor-like mouthparts are seen at centre. Magnification: x660 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
