Poverty and alcoholism. 19th-century artwork of a poor family in their living room with the father holding a bottle containing an alcoholic drink. A baby-sized coffin is in the background. Artwork from a 1905 combined edition of two collections of artworks by British book illustrator George Cruikshank (1792-1878). The two collections were 'The Bottle' (1847) and 'The Drunkard's Children' (1848), both produced by Cruikshank (formerly a heavy drinker) for the National Temperance Society.
