Juno spacecraft assembly. Technicians testing the deployment of one of the three massive solar arrays that will power NASA's Juno spacecraft. Juno was launched on 5th August 2011, on a five-year flight to Jupiter. After arriving in July 2016, it will orbit the planet 32 times over the following year, gathering information about Jupiter's atmosphere, magnetic field, and gravitational field. When Juno arrives it will be farther from the sun than any previous solar powered mission. Therefore the choice of solar power necessitates these very large solar arrays, which measure 2.65 by 8.9 metres long. Photographed at the Materials Test Laboratory, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Denver, USA, on 13th September 2010.
