SARS coronavirus protein. Molecular model of the ORF-9b protein produced by the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) coronavirus. This is a protein of a type that arises from a process known as an alternative open reading frame, where the normal protein production process differs from normal. ORF-9b is thought to play a role in the assembly of the SARS virion. The SARS coronavirus causes an often fatal lung disease. It first appeared in China in 2002.
