Collection of hominid remains. These remains were found in the Omo valley, Ethiopia, in 1967 by teams led by Richard Leakey. At left is a right ulna (lower arm bone) that dates to 3 million years ago and is thought to belong to Australopithecus afarensis (Omo L40-19). At bottom right is a mandible (lower jaw bone) that also dates to 3 million years ago and is thought to belong to A. afarensis (Omo L7A-125). At upper centre is part of a cranium, dated to 190,000 years ago and thought to belong to Homo erectus (Omo II). At lower centre is part of a mandible thought to belong to Paranthropus boisei (Omo L74A-21). Photographed at UCLA, USA, in 1978.
