Bassas da India photographed by astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) on 2nd April 2011. Bassas da India is an uninhabited atoll in the Indian Ocean (between the Mozambique coast of Africa and the island of Madagascar). Dark patches and streaks are regions of strong water current. Lighter coloured areas represent shallower waters, lagoons and tend to reflect sunlight.
