Planets and days of the week, artwork. Each planet (and also the Moon and Sun) is labelled with its astrological symbol, and the order and lines show their astrological relationships. The names of the days of the week originate from the association made between the ancient planets (which included the Sun and Moon) and various gods and goddesses. In English, the words Sunday, Monday and Saturday are all compounds words of day with Sun, Moon and Saturn respectively. The other days are named for various Norse gods and goddesses: Tuesday (Tiw), Wednesday (Woden), Thursday (Thor), and Friday (Freya). The planet names come from Roman gods and goddesses. Artwork from Pioneers of Science (Oliver Lodge, 1893).
