Robert Haag, an American commercial meteorite collector, holding an illuminated tektite. The tektite was found in Egypt, and is also known as 'Libyan Desert glass'. Tektites are silicaceous objects unrelated to the geological formations in which they are found. Although they are often referred to as glassy meteorites, tektites are more likely to have been formed as a result of meteorite impacts on Earth than to be of extra- terrestrial origin themselves.
