Galileo probe falling through the atmosphere of Jupiter. This small probe was deployed from the Galileo spacecraft on July 13 1995, entering the atmosphere on 7 December 1995 at speeds of over 47 kilometres per second. A parachute slowed its 600 kilometre descent, and the probe beamed data back to the orbiting Galileo spacecraft for 57 minutes, before being crushed by the atmospheric pressures. It discovered strong winds and an atmosphere of mostly hydrogen, 9% helium, and traces of methane, ammonia and water. The composition of the clouds was not determined, as the probe appears to have descended through a hole in the cloud layers.
