Al-Rabtah chemical weapons factory, Libya, satellite image. This plant was said to be the developing world's largest chemical weapons factory. It is situated in the desert, 95 kilometres from Tripoli. Amongst other weaponry it produced mustard gas and shells for chemical bombs. However, in 2004 the Libyan Government shut down the plant and allowed entry to US and British weapons inspectors. Among the weapons inspector's finds was a stockpile of 20 tonnes of mustard gas. The plant has since been converted to a pharmaceutical factory. Taken on 3 February 2001 by the Ikonos satellite.
