St Pancras construction site. Construction work to redevelop St Pancras railway station, London, UK. The redevelopment, due to be completed in 2007, is to allow the station to be used as a terminus for Eurostar trains following the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. The roof beams seen here are the beams of the original Barlow Trainshed, built in the 19th century and opened in 1868. The beams are made of cast iron. The clock tower in the background at upper left is part of St Pancras Chambers, formerly the Midland Grand Hotel. This example of Victorian Gothic architecture stands in front of the train station, and is the structure visible from the road that passes in front of the train station.
