Royal Albert Bridge. Historical engraving of the opening of the Royal Albert Bridge by Prince Albert on 2 May 1859. This bowstring suspension bridge of steel over the Tamar River at Saltash, England, was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the last bridge to be built by him. It was required by the Admiralty to have a 100 foot clearance above the water for sailing ships.
