Faliro Coastal Zone, Athens 2004. Satellite image of the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex (venue 7) of the 23rd Modern Olympic Games, which are being held from 13-29 August 2004 in Athens, Greece. This venue will host the volleyball, taekwondo and handball events. The first Modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Greece, when 300 athletes from 13 countries took part in 9 sporting events. Since then this competition has grown massively, and for the 23rd Games 10,500 athletes from 201 countries will participate in 28 sporting events.
