Communicating with computers. Media Lab researcher Richard Bolt sits next to the eye-tracking gear used to make eye-contact" with a computer. His cybergloves allow the computer to interpret his hand gestures. The aim of Bolt's research is to make it possible to communicate with computers just as with people: through speech, gestures and eye-contact. If successful his project could open up the "information superhighway" to millions of people who are unfamiliar with computers. The Med- ia Lab was set up in 1985 at the USA's Massachu- setts Institute of Technology. It carries out cutting-edge research into new ways of interacting with the computerised media of the future."
