Dimona nuclear reactor, Israel. Satellite image of secret nuclear research facility in the Negev desert, Israel. Although classed as a site for processing irradiated fuel, it is alleged that the Dimona reactor is also used to produce nuclear weapons. This image was produced by the Ikonos satellite, the first commercial satellite to collect data at one-metre resolution. Launched in 1999, Ikonos orbits at an altitude of 681 kilometres. Image taken on 4 July 2000.
