Solar panel composed of circular photovoltaic, or solar, cells. Photovoltaic cells are made of a semiconductor material such as silicon or gallium arsenide. The electrons in the semiconductor are loosely bound to their atoms and can be liberated by the addition of energy. The electrons released when light energy hits the panel are collected by the grid of wires that runs over the surface of each cell and used to make an electric current.
