Stomach-oesophagus junction, pill camera view. This is where the squamous cells that line the oesophagus (right) give way to the columnar cells that line the stomach. The oesophagus is the tube that runs from the back of the throat to the stomach. The columnar cells of the stomach lining are resistant to the stomach's acids. The stomach is responsible for physically and chemically breaking down food before passing it to the intestines, where absorption of nutrients occurs. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera that is swallowed to image the digestive tract.
