Bacterial infection of a man's genitals. The glans (head of the penis) has sore and inflamed areas (pink/purple) caused by a bacterial infection. The condition, called balanoposthitis, is usually due to the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. This man also has the condition called paraphimosis, which is where the foreskin (prepuce) is stuck in a retracted position behind the glans, instead of fitting over the glans. Paraphimosis can have several causes, but the swelling of the glans due to infection is a possible cause in this case. Photographed in Africa.
