The ovary and its fallopian tube are normally separate, but here fibrous bands of tissue (adhesions) have grown between them to join them. Blood (dark red, centre right; and light red, on ovary) is due to cutting of the adhesions by the tools. This kind of surgery is carried out if the adhesions or hydrosalpinx interfere with the function of the reproductive organs.
