Hysterosalpingography. X-ray of a woman's abdomen showing her healthy reproductive organs. A contrast medium was introduced into the uterus (lower centre) and Fallopian tubes (oviducts, narrow, extending from uterus) through the cervix (bottom centre), the uterine neck. The dye passed into the abdominal cavity, highlighting parts of the intestines (centre left and right). This indicates that there is no obstruction of the oviducts. Hysterosalpingography allows the diagnosis of reproductive disorders such as oviduct blockage, uterine tumours and injury. It is performed in the week following menstruation, which ensures that the woman is not pregnant.
