Skin-harvesting robot. Prototype skin harvesting system being tested on a pig. This device, known as SCALPP (an acronym derived from the French for automatic cutting system for skin sampling"), is designed to produce skin grafts for use in reconstructive surgery. Harvesting skin is a difficult procedure, and automating it could improve the performance of surgeons. SCALPP was developed jointly by the Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Robotique et de Microelectronique at the University of Montpellier, France, and the French company Sinters SA."
