Speculum. Gloved hand holding a vaginal Cusco speculum. It is inserted into the patient's vagina and opened out, widening the passage. This allows the gynaecologist to examine the neck (cervix) of the uterus. It is often used during a cervical smear or pap test, when a sample of cellular material is taken from the cervix with a spatula.
