Adrenal gland cancer. Gross clinical specimen of the adrenal or suprarenal glands with secondary malignant (cancerous) tumours (neoplasms, pale white). The cancer originated in the lungs, possibly as a result of cigarette smoking, and has travelled (metastasis) to the adrenal glands through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. The adrenal glands are located on the surface of the kidneys, they release hormones including adrenaline. Symptoms of adrenal gland cancer include excess hormone secretion that may lead to Conn's syndrome, which results in high blood pressure. Surgical removal of the tumours or even the whole gland is the only effective treatment.
