Cryptococcosis disease. Fluorescence light micro- graph of human brain tissue revealing the presence of the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans (orange), the cause of cryptococcosis or torulosis disease. This yeast fungus is responsible for tumour-like lesions in the lungs known as torulomas, but it also spreads to the brain causing meningitis. The disease is caught from soil or pigeon droppings.
