Abrikossoff's tumour (granular cell tumour). Light micrograph of a section through tissue from an Abrikossoff's tumour. This rare tumour is normally benign, usually appearing in the skin and arising either from nerve cells or the Schwann cells that form the sheath of nerve fibres. The tumour cells are large and typically appear polyhedral. As they contain granules, they are termed granular. Most of these tumours are surgically excised and do not recur. Around half of these tumours occur on the head and neck. Magnification unknown.
