He obtained his PhD from the University of London, UK, and held various academic posts before emigrating to Australia in 1990. He has achieved an international reputation for being able to explain advanced scientific ideas in simple language. He has written over 20 books, numerous television and radio programmes and won several awards for his contribution to the public understanding of science.
