Prometea, the first cloned horse (Equus caballus). Prometea (foreground) with her identical twin and surrogate mother, Stella Cometa. Not only was Prometea the world's first cloned horse: she was also the first clone to be carried to term by the nuclear donor. Her creator, Cesare Galli, took a skin cell from Stella Cometa and fused it with an empty horse egg. The resulting embryo was cultured for five days before being implanted into Stella Cometa's uterus. Prometea was born on 28 May 2003 at the Laboratory of Reproductive Technology in Cremona, Italy, where this photograph was taken.
