A common lacewing Chrysopa vulgaris ensnared by the sticky glands at the tips of the tentacles of the carnivorous plant, Drosera rotundifolia, the sundew. The tentacles are of two kinds; longer marginal ones & shorter inner ones. Insects stick to the tips of the longer ones, which bend over bringing them inward towards the shorter ones. Proteolytic enzymes secreted by the tentacles digest the insect & the products are absorbed by the leaf. Drosera grows in a nitrogen deficient environment (bogs), which it overcomes through a carnivorous diet.
