The bromeliad, Tillandsia, in flower, in Sao Paulo State, Brazil. This plant grows epiphytically on branches of trees high in the canopy of the rainforests of South America. It has no roots, & is said to be an air plant. Nutrients are obtained instead from the air, rainwater, & organic debris on its support. Often pools of water collect in its rosette of leaves.
